Will India Master the Hyperloop Technology Before the World?

Image
India is known for its bold infrastructure experiments, but can it lead the race in developing and deploying Hyperloop technology? This ultra-high-speed transportation concept has been gathering momentum globally, and India is now one of the key players considering full-scale implementation. What is Hyperloop? Hyperloop is a concept for a high speed train that travels in pods through vacuum tubes, likely exceeding 1000 km/h. It is promoted as faster than airplanes and more energy efficient than existing rail systems.   Global Progress vs. India’s Momentum: The U.S., UAE and Netherlands have each taken steps to test it in some capacity; India has developed the most momentum by partnering with Virgin Hyperloop and identifying the Pune-Mumbai route as the initial test case.  India’s Easy Advantages:-  Huge existing domestic travel demand Political willingness for transport modernization Public-private partnerships and openness to foreign technology Lower costs of constructi...

Trump Hits India with 26% Tariffs

Image
In a dramatic turn of events, U.S. President Donald Trump laid down a tariff of 26% on Indian imports with effect from April 9, 2025. The move has elicited debate on its possible consequences for the Indian economy and the general geopolitical scenario. The U.S. government has been pushing strongly for protectionist trade policy, with the objective of reducing trade deficits as well as promoting domestic manufacture. One of the major trading partners and a country that has now been hit by these higher tariffs is India. Impact on Indian Economy: The tariffs will most likely impact various industries, including textiles, pharmaceuticals, and automobile parts. Exporters in these industries may face reduced competitiveness in the U.S. market, resulting in reduced revenues and job loss. India's Response: Despite the tariffs, India has not counterattacked in the near term. Rather, the Indian government is attempting to focus on ongoing trade negotiations with the U.S., seeking to comple...
